The 1980 Fall Season

I recently took a look at the Fall 1980 TV schedule and wept bitterly. Night after night, hour after hour, one great show followed another. It was unbelievable - could it have possibly been true that all these programs aired concurrently?

Now, I admit that I have more than a passing interest in classic TV. But I have to believe that anyone can see that the 1980 schedule is far and away better than what's currently on. Please have a look and see what I mean.

Yeah, I know a lot of these shows had jumped the shark by 1980, but you get the picture.

What's the weakest link in the 1980 line-up? I'd have to say "Flo", although I'd even take that over what's on the tube right now.

  1. I agree !! There is a reason for the shows being so good back then . With three networks , producers could choose and hire the BEST writers , directors , actors , etc. for the shows . ( That is one reason why you see so many roles performed by veteran character actors such as Burt Mustin , Jane Dulo , Reta Shaw , Vitto Scotti , ect . They were dependable , and would get the job done !! ) Nowadays , with so many networks , there is a greater need for material . So , the high standards are lessened to accommodate the need .
