A Few Images from the 1970's

Is it me or is there something mildly disturbing about this publicity shot? The lovely Angels have obviously blown this guy's brains out, and his corpse is lying in a bloody pool while Sabrina cheerfully radios Bosley. I love it... but not as much as this photo from the 1975 JC Penney Catalogue (apparently from their pimpwear line). A great place to check out some cool 1970's catalogue pictures is http://www.plaidstallions.com/.

When I first decided to get on the blog bandwagon, I hastily called my new site "retrospace", basically ripping off the title and theme of another great retro pop culture site called retrocrush. I never figured I'd stick with it beyond a week or two, but it's been pretty fun so far, so I'm still here (unfortunately, still with the name retrospace). In hindsight, I wish I'd come up with a cooler name like No Smoking in the Skull Cave. But I digress... I highly recommend visiting retrocrush, where you'll be treated to wonderfully odd blasts from the past like the most gruesome toy ever made: the 1971 Aurora Monster Scenes Custom Builder Kits. As retrocrush puts it, it is "the most offensive and parent brain bursting toy of all time". Click here for the retrocrush analysis.

I think the line "Don't worry. This is New York! No ones going to help her" is an allusion to the imfamous Kitty Genovese case in the mid-1960's. For those of you who don't remember the case, Miss Genovese was brutally beaten, raped and murdered outside of her apartment building while her neighbors stood at their windows and watched! Nobody lifted a finger to help! Thus giving rise to New York City's (and New Yorkers) VERY bad reputation. Anyone who lived in NYC in the '70's and early '80's knows what I'm talking about!
