Vintage Scares #2: Creepiest Magazine Cover Ever

This December 1977 Jet magazine cover spooks the hell out of me. Never mind the fact that OJ decapitated a woman of similar appearance to Elizabeth Montgomery. And never mind the fact that this is a publicity shot for a TV movie called A Time for Killing. No, what gets me is Montgomery's wicked-ass stare.

Move your head from side to side, walk around - her eyes seem to follow you wherever you go. I'm not kidding - it's unnerving.

  1. LOL That's the same way I am about it. Sure it's got OJ on the cover, but it's Liz that is freaking me out.

  2. You know Elizabeth Montgomery once played Lizzie Borden in a TV version of the film. I am sure I recall this correctly. Let me double check. It is a project certainly worthy of a post I think someday.

  3. Yes, she did play Lizzie Borden in a tv-movie from the 70s. I saw it many times, since I grew up in Fall River, Mass. and my father was a Lizzie Borden fanatic. We lived about two miles from her gravesite and her second home, Maplecroft, where she lived the rest of her life.

As for Ms. Montgomery, maybe she just had a "feeling" about OJ. She was warning us! >:(

  4. She did two or three of these TV movies where she and OJ played cops and they were pretty good as I recall. Probably never see 'em again now thanks to OJ's notoriety. Gotta admit that stare creeps me out, too, and I LOVED Liz!

  6. jbfunky - you're right! If Endora was having a hard time with Darren, wait till she meets this guy! Larry Tate's gonna want to maybe take it down a notch with the Juice.

Keith and Booksteve- My wife was walking by my computer and was stopped dead in her tracks by her Regan McNeil-like stare.

UWilly and Wings- I've never quite recovered from Montgomery's leap from Samantha Stephens to Lizzie Borden. If memory serves, she stripped naked to kill her parents... a far cry from her role on Bewitched! (I also still struggle with Mary Poppins going topless in the film S.O.B... so, I have issues).

  7. Look at the fear in her eyes. She must know that something's up.

  8. This is just a bad photo of her. I always thought Elizabeth Montgomery was very beautiful. She was in an episode of The Twilight Zone with Charles Bronson back in 1961 called "Two." Awesome episode, and she was hot in it. She's a natural brunette and still had the dark hair in that show. Well worth looking for.
