The Netflix Meme

I'm always willing to jump on any meme that's floating around. You could have a meme which asks you to count to ten in Esperanto and I'd be all over it. I read a lot of others complaining about getting tagged; I, however, am grateful for a topic to write about without having to dig one up from scratch. I'm going to write a post about every day - that's a given. It's nice to have a topic laid in my lap.

Anyway, Dr. Monkerstein and Wings just completed a meme which has you list ten movies in your Netflix queue (if you don't have Netflix - the last ten movies you watched). I wasn't tagged, but that's never stopped me before, so here goes.

1. Piranha
This one has languished in my "SAVED" portion of my queue for quite some time -along with Asylum (an Amicus horror flick), The Six Million Dollar Man Season One, Carry On Matron, Rabid, and The Hellstrom Chronicle.

2. Paul Bart: Mall Cop
This is for my kids. I get 4 at a time, and one of those is usually for the children. I actually might watch this with them - it looks rather funny in a slapstick sort of way.

3. The Cannonball Run
The recent passing of The Dom reminded me of this movie.

4. Student Bodies
I watched this one a year ago and hated it... yet I have such fond memories. Perhaps I was in a bad mood last year and this horror comedy deserves another shot.

5. The Giallo Collection: Glass Dolls
I know there seems to be a lot of horror in me queue, but I've been on a horror kick for the past several months. Sometimes there's nothing better than a groovy 1970's Italian giallo; I don't know anything about this one, but I'm sure it wild be a wild ride as most of them are.

6. Pineapple Express
This is for my wife and I to watch. She detests horror movies, so I'm on my own with those. This one looks promising.

7. Land of the Giants: Disc 2
Irwin Allen made some great technicolor sci-fi TV shows back in the day. I watched a lot of "Lost in Space" as a kid, but never saw this one until recently. I'm diggin' it.

8. Terror of Mechagodzilla
This is for me and the kids again - this is where I spread my geek contagion to innocent members of the family and force them to watch it. After all, I had to sit through the Hannah Montana movie a couple weeks ago, so it's only fair.

9. Stripes
I love Bill Murray movies from this period: Meatballs, Caddyshack, etc. This one I haven't seen since it came on HBO when I was in 6th grade.

10. Scream and Scream Again
A mod horror movie... with Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Vincent Price. Plus the psychedelic group the Amen Corner... giddyup!

  1. Stripes is one I'll always stop what I'm doing and watch when just channel surfing. I know every gag, but there are just too many great ones. And that's a fact, Jack! er, I mean Gil.

  2. Great list! I am sort of in the same boat as you, horror is all for me, my kids have stuff they choose, and the wife does, too.

I am gonna be all over this meme now. Like you, I enjoy them as well. Sort of a way to fill a blogging day AND get to know your fellow bloggers as well!

  3. DonW - It's a mystery why I've neglected Stripes - I've basically memorized Caddyshack. Go figure.

Wings- No one in my house will watch horror movies with me. My wife hates them and my kids don't like being emotionally scarred... so it's usually just me, a bowl of mini-wheats, and a horror movie. It's sad, I know.

  4. Gilligan: Oh, you and me both! I sit here alone watch the scary or bizarre stuff. And yeah, sometimes with a bowl of dry cereal. Hehe

So, I did the Netflix Meme, too, thanks to you! Let me know what you think.

  5. Excellent choice of movies Gilligan! Especially The Cannonball Run...we need more heroes like dum-dum-dummmm Captain Chaos!

  6. That's really cool to see what some of the movies you have in your queue are.

  7. wings - I just checked your meme. Awesome list ... that is, except for the Benjamin Button thing :-) I can't talk, my queue has been loaded with stuff like Little Women on more than one occasion. (gag)

jbfunky - And speaking of "Little Women"... I would say "Cannonball Run" may be its cinematic antithesis. I think if you are capable of liking both of these movies you should be on bipolar medication.

keith - Yeah, I think you can learn a lot about a person from their Netflix queue. I wonder what mine says about me... or maybe I don't want to know.

  8. I just did one too. Check it out. I don't watch horror much, other than the 1930s-40s Universal stuff. I love film noir, but my wife hates it, so I usually watch those by myself, or if they are "safe" then I will watch one with a couple of my boys.

We have 3 separate queues, one for me, one the wife, one the kids. I link to a description of it at my post.

  9. Is Piranha the one where some people go swimming in a pool full of the evil fish, then somehow the pool gets drained into the river?

  10. Retro Hound - I just checked yours out and commented on it. Great stuff - your family has great taste!

I'll have to look into the whole separate queues thing - didn't know that was possible.

  11. Haven't seen Piranha in a LONG time, so I can't tell you. I'd like to see Piranha II as well, if only to check out James Cameron's early work.

    Where's Martyrs?

  13. My Netflix list is probably on the list they keep of 'customers who need serious meds'. Enjoying movies like The Omen and and stuff like Pride and Prejudice will do that for a person. *grins*

My man, I love your blog, but I might have to stop reading it if I find out you enjoyed "Mall Cop" even a little. Although the addition of mechagodzilla will redeem pretty much anything.

  15. I love british horror films, but could never get into "Scream and scream again". The first half of "Stripes" is great, but loses a lot of it's charm once they go on the mission in Europe. I used to love "Land of the giants", but I passed on the set when I saw the high price tag.
