Vintage Scan #14: Vintage Textbook Defacing

Exploring Science textbook (1976)

Just a quick post: I was paging through this old science textbook from 1976 and found it riddled with graffiti. I couldn't help but laugh at some of the 70s references. For example, in the picture above:

"oh helda come over to the reegle Beagle"

Nice Three's Company reference. Whoever this vandalizing delinquent was, he deserves some recognition. So, here's a couple more.

"wanna drag man"... Hmmm. Veiled marijuana reference maybe?

This textbook vandal's wit knows no bounds! Remember the commercial "Nytol will help you get your Z's"?
The 70s were saturated with jingles that every school age kid knew: "Plop Plop Fizz Fizz", "Don't squeeze the Charmin", "I should've had a V-8!", "Ancient Chinese secret", etc. etc.

Well, there were more examples of vintage smart-ass textbook vandalism, but you get the idea.

  1. I think that means drag race.

  2. analogmoon - Obviously, it's referring to a drag race - I was thinking maybe our schoolboy scribbler was laying something between the lines, if you know what I mean.

  3. Good attention to detail to notice the dated references.

  4. I recently got an old textbook at an estate sale and it has the classic turn to page 121, then when you get there it says turn to page 42, etc. Finally after 10 flips or so it says something like, "You're and Idiot". Ha ha!
