Artful Conception #7: Gigantic Floating Eyes (Part Two)

eyeball collage

Can't get enough giant floating eyeballs? Well, I've got just what the doctor ordered.  Indeed, old books (and comics and magazines as well) were overflowing with enormous disembodied eyes. And I'm lapping it up and begging for more.

So, enjoy this installment of vintage faceless eyeballs; but, don't think for a minute this will be your last. I have only begun scratching the surface (the cornea, if you will) of the great surplus of old-school headless eyeballs. Peace out.

  1. The floating eye that popped in my mind was the one cited in "IBM and the Holocaust". It was around 1933 when IBM's data processing technology--punched cards--really got going, and their German subsidiary Dehomag had a very creepy ad showing a floating eye shooting X-Rays into a house, making a cutaway view of the house and all who lived in it. Brrrr.

I haven't seen any of the ads in that book show up online.

  5. I get an RSS feed of this site through Bloglines, and the ad under the article is for Puritan's Pride Lutein vitamin supplements. The ad says "Support Eye Health".
    Talk about targeting advertisements! :-D
