Take a minute to enjoy some cool television intros theme songs from the 80s. It should come as no surprise that my favorite decade for theme songs is the seventies. However, the eighties weren't too shabby.... my favorite being Simon & Simon, my worst being Mr. Belvedere.
Here's a few eighties TVtheme songs for your listening pleasure. Enjoy.

ReplyDeleteMy wife was a big TV watcher, so we've been getting lots of old TV shows on Netflix. Theme songs take on a whole new dimension when heard several times in a row.
Silver Spoons song is awful.
The other day I heard the theme to Magnum PI on the radio. It was pretty good.

The theme to The Gary Shandling Show is, of course, as exceptional as the show itself. And the theme to Night Court remains a standard-bearer in the theme song category.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised by how good the Riptide and Remington Steele theme songs were alone, without this distractingly awful teevee images. I was also surprised to discover that Larry Carlton had something to do with the theme song to Who's the Boss? Maybe the title should be: Who'd'a Thunkit?
Good stuff, man! I have a TON of theme songs from a few compilation cds I bought over the years. Love them. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff, Gilligan! You wouldn't happen to have Simon and Simon, would you? I love both the Jimmy Buffet-ish original theme from the first season (and the closing credits theme, which had lyrics) and the more familiar, rock-n-roll version... I'd say good things about you if you could dredge up one or all three of those...
ReplyDeleteOh, and the first season theme for Hardcastle and McCormick would be great, too. It was a hard rocker called "Drive," I believe...
ReplyDeleteLove the Hardcastle and McCormick theme!
ReplyDeleteJason - the Simon and Simon theme is in the last podcast. Take a listen!
Thanks, I'll do that!
ReplyDeleteI've come to realize just how much I hate the '80s synth sounds. The Doogie song is full of horrible sounds. Damn you, DX7! Damn you all to hell!
ReplyDeleteThey're just sooo bad. I like how It's Gary Shandling's Show made fun of 'em.
ReplyDeleteAny '70s TV show themes in the near future hanging about your studio?
The Remington Steele theme is almost exactly the same riff as the He-Man theme.
ReplyDeleteWith the demise of Rapidshare it looks like I will have to go over to YouTube to enjoy these 80s TV classics again. Thank you for the reminders though. Great collection.
