Vintage Style #22: Porn Fashion

It's become a cliched joke to claim you read Playboy for its articles; but, in all seriousness, the best place to find wicked wild 70s fashions are in vintage porn.  Sounds like a flimsy excuse, I know. But when you get a load of some of these magazine scans, you'll be a true believer.  There was something magical about the admixture of drugs, sluts, and alcohol.  The already unique 70s sensibility was taken to spectacularly awful (or awesome, depending on your tastes) extremes.

Check out a few clean (no nudity) examples of 70s porn fashion. But, please, dear God, do not send me a comment to notify me that a particular image is actually from 1982, and not a seventies image.  Just relax and enjoy the show.

You'll notice that a lot of these images are "introduction" scenes; where guys and girls first meet.  Clothes come off quick in these magazines, so they are typically the only images that show off their dazzling fashions.

Yep. More introduction scenes.

  1. I don't want to see any of these people naked.

  2. Being desperate was never limited to housewives, as these pictures offer proof of.

There's a lot of "loud" wallpaper here, too!

  3. My God most of these men are the dweebiest specimens I've ever seen. I guess acting in a porn movie is the only way they could get some.

  4. One thing I appreciate about these 70's porn folk is that they were adults portraying adults. The rest is just polyester goofy goodness!

  5. Such a breath of fresh air from today's sparse/LA valley modern empty living room sets. Look at all the stuff in these sets! Details and context.

    Cheers!

  6. I just have to say that quartet of images eight down looks like a porno of a 'Napoleon Dynamite' sales spiel scene.

  7. Wish I could find a link or quote, but I remember hearing there's some university that has a porn cache they use to study furniture design, since it's a pretty authentic record of actual stuff, rather than in Hollywood sets.

  8. Very interesting and very funny.

I saw a woman just the other day who was wearing a jumpsuit that looked scarily like the one the model in the first photo has on.

  12. Do you ever look at these pictures and say to yourself, "I'm writing a blog about THAT? When did my life go so horribly wrong??"

Not your blog.. You do that wonderfully.
But the era. When I look at what was the hight of fashion I wonder how we ever survived as a people.

  13. Complaining about porn fashion is like complaining about prom fashion...it doesn't matter, because it's all coming off before long.
