The Boob Tube #25: Lesser Known TV Babes (Part I)

If you watched TV in the 1970s and 80s, you know it was wall to wall babes.  Sure, the ladies had their Tom Selleck and David Soul; but, the guys had eye candy from the minute you powered that boob tube on.  There were simply tons of actresses finding work in bit parts on sitcoms and one-time roles on The Love Boat, Fantasy Island or Love, American Style.  Some got recurring parts, but mostly, you blinked and you missed them.

We are all familiar with the big names of the 70s and 80s: Farrah, Suzanne Somers, Heather Thomas, Heather Locklear, Catherine Bach, etc. Today, let's have a look at those lesser known ladies of TV yesteryear.  Recognize any of them?

Starsky & Hutch episode "I Love You Rosie Malone"
Tracy Brooks Swope appeared in Baretta, Love American Style, The Love Boat II (TV movie), The Partridge Family, and Charlie's Angels.  She was also in a TV movie called "Revenge for a Rape".

"Starsky & Hutch on Playboy Island"
Daina House was a Playboy Playmate of the Month in 1976 and appeared in The Fall Guy, Love Boat, Quark, and a couple hick flicks.  House found Jesus in the 1990's and leads a ministry at Church On the Way, even appearing on The 700 Club.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Knight Rider Episode "Knights of the Fast Lane"
Lory Walsh's career started out promising enough: a main character on Mulligan's Stew (1977) and then The MacKenzie's of Paradise Cove (1979). Both shows tanked and Lory ended up skipping around from Barnaby Jones to TJ Hooker to Simon and Simon to Murder, She Wrote, etc. You get the picture.

Look out ladies, here comes Hasslehoff

Knight Rider Episode "Knights of the Chameleon"
Kimberly Foster payed her dues before landing a role on Dallas, appearing in over thirty episodes. Kimberly had parts in Double Trouble and The A-Team and small roles in the movies One Crazy Summer and Dragnet.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The A-Team Episode "One More Time"
If I ever make a list of the busiest TV babes of the 70s and 80s, Barbara Horan will definitely be in the top ten.  To name just a few examples, Barbara had one episode roles in Crazy Like a Fox, Charles In Charge, Automan, Matt Houston, Dukes of Hazzard, Hart to Hart, The Fall Guy, and a recurring role on BJ and the Bear.  She now runs a bra company called "Sassybax" - bras with no strap lines.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When it comes to jumping from show to show, I simply don't know how you can top Tracy Scoggins.  Sure, she ended up big with Babylon 5 and pretty meaty roles on Lois & Clarke and Dynasty, but prior to that it was a laundry list of shows that rivals Ted McGinley!

Her credits include: Dallas, Hawaiian Heat, TJ Hooker, Crazy Like a Fox, Hotel, The Colbys, Manimal, The New Odd Couple, Renegades, Hardcastle & McCormick, Wings, The A-Team, Remington Steele, The New Mike Hammer, Dukes of Hazzard, etc., etc.  She definitely paid her dues.

  1. Great list! Kimberly Foster was so beautiful, fresh-faced! And Scoggins was a hard-worker, that's for sure.

  2. DUDE---!

You didn't say anything about Judy Landers (pictured in your subject line)...or her even hotter sister Audrey!!

  3. A good start, but we know there are many more "Lesser Known TV Babes" yet to be mentioned, in addition to the Landers sisters.

    Looking forward to the sequel!

  4. Nicola Bryant of Dr. Who has two good qualifications here. So does Markie Post of Fall Guy and Night Court.

  5. Buck Rogers is another good place to find lesser known babes. Including Markie Post.

Wasn't Tracy Scoggins one the most downloaded women on the internet in about 1995?

  6. Don't get me started. I could go on for years with this post topic... it all depends on reader response (comments, page views, clicks, etc.).

Don't get me wrong, I write want I want to write about, but if it's a popular post, it does give me incentive to write more of the same... and the reverse is also true.

So whether we have subsequent posts featuring the Landers sisters (and maybe a little Elaine Joyce to boot) only time will tell.

  7. A second vote for Markie Post! One of my favorites. Here's some others-

Brianne Leary - CHiPs, Fall Guy, Buck Rogers
Susan Kiger - CHiPs, Starsky & Hutch, Playboy
Shelley Smith - Fantasy Island, Love Boat, Hunter
Lindsay Bloom - Starsky & Hutch, Vega$, Mike Hammer
Lee Purcell - Barnaby Jones, Magnum P.I.
Joann Harris - Streets Of San Francisco, B.J. & The Bear, Fantasy Island
Phyllis Davis - Vega$, Fantasy Island, Matt Houston

BTW Gilligan, this is one of the best blogs in the history of the internet. Seriously, thanks for covering the stuff you do.

  8. all those chicks are mega-hot. this should definitely be a regular feature. Awhile back on the Retrospace Zeta site, you had a picture of one of the Landers sisters, and it drove me nuts trying to remember her/their name. (a buddy of mine finally got it)

  10. clambake mentioned Brianne Leary. If memory serves, she was booted off "CHiPs" at Erik Estrada's request, for reasons I can't recall.

  11. I remember Daina House as a Playmate, but never saw any of her tv work. The screenshots don't really showcase her best assets.

  12. Erik Estrada didn't get along with Brianne. She was treated badly. I am a huge Brianne Leary fan & have a Fanpop club for her:

I think Erik abused his power on CHiPs. People should treat people like they would want to be treated themselves. Lots of people don't get along. Deal with it. Brianne deserved better than that. She's super talented.
