Mini Skirt Monday #161: Minis on Television

Here's a potpourri of television minis.  We've covered individual shows before (Logan's Run, Bewitched, Star Trek, Hawaii 5-0, and Gilligan's Island to name a few). Today, however, we'll look at a miscellany of minis, many of which you will probably recognize from previous posts.  I'd love to give you all brand spanking new ones, but such is life.  What it lacks in quality it hopefully makes up for in quantity.  Enjoy.

The uniforms weren't as revealing as in UFO, another Gerry Anderson venture.  But every once and a while, ol' Gerry would throw you a bone.
Linda Thorson actually wore more minis than her predecessor, Diana Rigg (who wore the iconic full body suit).

It was inevitable that us seventies kids would become such miniskirt aficionados - our young impressionable minds were bombarded by them (The New Zoo Revue, Sid and Marty Kroft shows, and even Sesame Street had minis a-plenty).
Another Mannix shot.  This show deserves its own post one day.
The miniskirt was on the outs by the time MTM hit its stride; minis can be spotted in early episodes

British shows, from comedies like "On the Buses" to dramas like "Jason King" were literally teeming with miniskirts.

There were more miniskirts than you might expect on Gilligan's Island.  Check out the post.

Louise Lasser and the gang were forever in miniskirts on Mary Hartman.  I've done a post on the show recently; however, it wasn't a Miniskirt Monday post.

I'm happy to report that Hawaii 5-0 was no slouch when it came to minis.  Check out the Miniskirt Monday post.

The miniskirt had long since gone out of style during Three's Company's run.  Despite its notorious use of female anatomy, you'll be hard pressed to find a miniskirt.  Lots of hotpants and nighties, but the miniskirt is as out of style as Mr. Furley's ascot.
Can you believe I haven't done a Marcia Brady miniskirt post?  She was a little young, but it still needs to happen.
Yes, I know - The Nanny and the Tales from the Crypt minis are from the nineties (past the Retrospace cut-off); however, these are from the early nineties, so I can live with it if you can.
Not only was there the Jungle Jane character in a mini, but Rita Moreno trounced around in short skirts as well - in the little girl outfit, she was apt to give it a flip.  Is it pathetic that I know this?  Maybe.  But it's all part of my job as self appointed Caretaker of the Vintage Miniskirt.
Lots and lots of minis on news shows back then.  I'd do a post on them as well, but I don't have access to these shows (other than crummy YouTube videos).

Lord knows Star Trek was bursting at the seams with miniskirts.  Naturally, there's a Miniskirt Monday post to capture them.

Laverne wore a shit ton of minis in the last few seasons.  Unfortunately, they have for whatever reason been unavailable until just a few months ago.  (Seasons 7 and 8 are still M.I.A, unfortunately).

  1. Thanks again for the great post! Love me some miniskirt MOnday! Looks like "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" might be fertile ground for its own stand-alone mini-skirt monday.

  2. Where was this Mod Squad when I was watching it? I only remember Lipton wearing pants, and yesterday's METV Mod Squad marathon seemed to confirm that.

Marcia Brady's miniskirts were probably at their shortest during the Warren Mullaney episode.

Thank you very much for another miniskirt monday. Your blog is just wonderful, let me just say that your old header was much better than the new one. It was less descriptive, but much more stylish

  5. Hotpants show just as much, sometimes more, lovely legs as miniskirts. Check out Marilyn Patch on "The New Howdy Doody Show". That did a lot to my developing psyche!

  6. Certainly had my own crush on Joanna Cameron in the "Isis" days!

Oh, yes. She had her fans among the Saturday day shift personnel of the 93rd Supply Squadron Fuels Section, Castle AFB, CA. We never missed an episode, lol.

  7. Yes, we need a Marcia Brady post, and it must feature no less than 200 images. :)

BTW, I certainly wouldn't object if you stopped using the weird filter on the images and posted them in their glorious original state.

  8. A CAROL Brady post would be most welcome, as I'm sure I'm not alone in having tuned in on Fridays in the early days of the series to see Florence Henderson in a mini, and Marcia, not so much.

    1. What's it like being blind?

    2. What's it like being stupid?

  9. I've noticed in reruns of "Adam-12" minis aplenty, worn either by extras or actresses with speaking parts. Watching many of the episodes, you'd get the impression a lot of housewives wore minidresses everyday. If that was the case, I didn't see any in my neighborhood.

Maybe there should be a Miniskirt Monday devoted to the minis of "Adam-12" and "Dragnet."
