1. The Shining twins: Put two teenage boys in the hallway of the Overlook, or a couple of adult women, and it's no big deal. Put a couple of little girls in pretty dresses in the hallway, and it'll have you sleeping with the lights on.
2. The boy from the George C. Scott film, The Changeling
3. The boy from The Grudge (or the Japanese original, Ju-On)
4. Gage Creed from Pet Semetary (my Achilles tendon hurts just thinking about it)
5. The girl from The Ring (those Japanese sure know their creepy kids!)
6. The girl from Mario Bava's Kill, Baby Kill (Operazione paura)
7. Damien from The Omen (1976)
8. The boy with the mask in The Orphanage (El Orfanato 2007)
9. Michael Myers (Halloween, 1978): the opening scene where little Mike kills his sister
10. The Three Men and a Baby ghost: I know they say it's a cardboard cut out, but I don't care. When the urban myth got out that there was a real ghost captured in a lousy Steve Guttenberg film, it was a horrific rush. It was just grainy and sinister enough to be the real deal!
I'm sure there's a bunch I'm leaving out, but these stuck out the most. If you can think of any others that should be on the list, let me know.

Yes, I agree that there is an extra element in child movie killers that makes them extremely creepy. Maybe it is the fact that children playing killers on screen (or being killed on screen) is still considered taboo. This phenomenon is similar to seeing an animal killed on screen. I personally would much rather watch an adult be murdered in a movie than a child or an animal. Here are a few creepy kids that came to my mind:
ReplyDelete3. Isaac Chroner from The Children of the Corn. To me, he was scarier than Malachi.
2. Henry Evans from The Good Son. Played by Macaulay Culkin, this evil child actually killed an animal. A creepy child killer that murders animals? You can't get much creepier than that.
1. Regan MacNeil from The Exorcist, played by Linda Blair. Need I say more? Warner Bros. had to provide Linda Blair with bodyguards for six months after the movie was released because she was receiving so many death threats.

ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by the Cafe and leaving a couple nice comments. I have had some PC issues lately really and cannot always get connected. I am about to wipe the hard drive drive clean and reinstall everything but just keep putting it off. So, I cannot edit my site as much as I want or check blogs like yours, which are blocked in China and so I need proxies and fast browsers to get through.
I might add to your list that little blond girl in The Bad Seed, played by Patty McCormick. I have the DVD around here in this mess and need tog et it out and check it out again.
Good list, especially Gage. That kid ALWAYS creeps me out when I watch the movie. And I would definitely add the Children of the Corn in there somewhere.
