1. "Shannon" by Henry Gross
Henry Gross was a founding member of Sha-Na-Na, a 50's revival group who performed at Woodstock and had their own variety show. Gross went solo and became popular enough to warrant a reference from Spidey!

"Shannon" was written about Beach Boy Carl Wilson's dog who had died. The tune may be sappy, but the refrain was beautiful and it struck a nerve with audiences in the mid 70's. Only the most hardened individuals who've ever lost a pet can listen to this without being a little choked up.
Shannon is gone,
I hope she's drifting out to sea,
She always loved to swim away,
Maybe she'll find an island with a shady tree,
Just like the one in our backyard.
I hope she's drifting out to sea,
She always loved to swim away,
Maybe she'll find an island with a shady tree,
Just like the one in our backyard.
2. "Martha My Dear" by The Beatles
The song is named after and dedicated to McCartney's Old English Sheepdog. I've also heard that it relates to Paul McCartney's one-time girlfriend Jane Asher.
Shamus by Pink Floyd. Hard on the ears.
