Let's Get Physical #11: Fitness from a Catalog (Part 3)
In this last of three parts we'll look at some full page scans from vintage catalogs. I'll refrain from my usual expository on the awful state of American fitness this time around. Just sit back, relax and enjoy.
Ah, the "facial" vibrator. That's a popular name for those.
I love the multiple exposure action photos they used to use a lot to illustrate how something works. Works equally well for fitness equipment and kids toys (those bouncy balls you ride on, pogo sticks, those plastic things that looked like jai alai thingies, etc).
I remember these ads very well, attractive women in leotards to get your attention. I had the good fortune when I was growing up of living next to a very nice family, where the wife had an incredible body, and where I once saw one of those belt massagers in a room at their house. I would have loved to see her in a leotard using the massager, lol.

These are GRRREAT.
ReplyDeleteI miss the days of the 'mono-chrome' Nylon lycra full matching work out ladies.
YOU MUST find more of these. Brilliant.
Love the classic "facial vibrator" ads.
ReplyDeleteEver notice all the women in these ads have this glazed, Quaalude-using look in their eyes as they gaze off camera, like they're Stepford Wives?

ReplyDelete"Swingers" looks like something that you'd see on QVC.
