Anyway, for this post I've got a mixed bag of girls in miniskirts sporting stockings, hose, and tights in every color of the rainbow. It was trendy during the psychedelic sixties, but by 1970 this fad was dead on arrival. For a brief magical time both the miniskirt and loud colored leg coverings converged - and this is a post about that beautiful moment. Sure, the style popped up again in the eighties, but only to a small extent.
A significant percentage of non-professional photography during this period was black and white. Thus, tracking down a goodly number of photos for your viewing pleasure was a bit of a challenge. However, I still managed to scrounge up a healthy amount of images ranging from the sixties to the eighties. Enjoy.

THE END
You could do a whole post of photos of Peggy Lipton wearing these on The Mod Squad. She wore colored hose in just about every episode. Is it just me or does the the guy in photo #15 look like he should be a character on Dark Shadows?
ReplyDelete...Where's Penny and Judy Robinson from season 3 Lost in Space or Land of The Giants? Promiently displayed coloured tights are seen in the movies "Blow Up" and "The Spy With A Cold Nose" and in the UK right now, blue, red and purple tights are fashionable.
ReplyDelete16.......................
ReplyDelete#5 should have a giant red neon sign flashing the word PANCAKES.
ReplyDeleteHeaven!
ReplyDeleteIsn't the guy on the far right in #23 holding a fox pup? Strange, but I guess anything is possible with Samantha Stevens close by (#34). Also, I agree about #16 she's in my personal mini-skirt wearers Hall Of Fame.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cheerful post! Bright colors put me in a good mood.
ReplyDeleteHey, it was good enough for Daphne Blake to wear for a long time!
ReplyDelete17, 30, 46 -- pee-stained tights?
ReplyDeleteOr you could just call them "yellow" tights. The choice is yours I guess.
DeleteNice seeing Liz Montgomery's (RIP) gorgeous gams, though I'm partial to her in the usual pantyhose shades.
ReplyDeleteWhite has never worked for me, even seeing it in stockings and garter belts.
Mod Squad = pancakes - but without Julie.
ReplyDeleteThere was a girl I dated in high school (in 1968) who I hadn't paid much attention the previous year but when she showed up for the new school year in bright orange tights, see got my attention.
ReplyDeleteWhile I've always preferred legs the color of legs, there was a place for this. All things in moderation, as it says in the Good Book. Even moderation.
ReplyDeleteI never realized what big ears Twiggy has. Is she related to the Royal Family?
ReplyDelete5) Pancakes
ReplyDelete8) Freudian
11) Pancakes
12) He has never lived down this picture; it was the beginning of his downfall from Most Popular to Most Wanted
15) He will be arrested and spend many years in prison for what he’s about to do
19) “Who let one?”
23) He is still standing under that same umbrella on that same street because he knew he could never again look as cool as he did at that moment
25) As soon as this shoot is over, we’re strangling the hairdresser
30) What do you mean there are no hotels in this country? No wonder we got this international route so easily.
34) Bewitched
Those are three guys in picture 25. }:-O
ReplyDelete"It was trendy during the psychedelic sixties, but by 1970 this fad was dead on arrival." This statement is flat out wrong! From 1970-1975 widely varied, brightly colored hosiery was standard, everyday leg wear for American high school girls. I know. I wore them! The first half of the 70's was a colored nylon forest in American high school corridors.
