The original Price Is Right was cancelled in 1965. The year 1972 marked its triumphant return with Bob Barker at the helm, flanked by two beauties: Anitra Ford and Janice Pennington. Naturally, Barker being a man's-man, dressed his ladies in miniskirts and was quick to add a lecherous comment.
A bevy of Barker's beauties followed Anitra and Janice; however, the miniskirt craze was over by then. Thankfully, Anitra and Janice are plenty. Now, if only they'd release all the old episodes, the miniskirt enthusiast population would be satisfied. Alas, all we have are a handful (available on DVD and YouTube) and the quality isn't that great.
Longtime Retrospacers will note that this is somewhat of a repeat performance as Mini Skirt Monday #17 (7/27/09) was an Anitra Ford post. However, back then I didn't go quite as overboard as I do now with pictures, and there's only four images. I felt this deserved an update.
Aaaanyhoo. I'll stop bitching now and just dish up some Price Is Right Mini Skirts. Come on down!
Okay, not a Beauty, but a contestant. So be it.
Anitra wants you to buy this DVD |
I don't know which is sexier - the ladies or that '72 Vega.

ReplyDeleteAnd since Anitra Ford was in THE BIG BIRD CAGE, INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS, DIRTY O'NEIL, and STACEY at the same time she was on THE PRICE IS RIGHT during the day, viewers were able to check out what was under that miniskirt at their local drive-in at night!
ReplyDeleteMs.Ford also had a brief appearance as the girlfriend of Burt Reynolds in the original 1974 film, The longest Yard. My best memory of her was playing opposite Kay Lee Crosby in the unsold Wonder Woman TV pilot.
DeleteI was a fan of Holly, the redhead in later seasons. Not only was she cute, she had a tendency to fall off the stage or break the item she was showcasing.I like my cheesecake with a side of slapstick comedy.
ReplyDeleteTotally... Holly was my first childhood TV-crush. I was 'forced' Price is Right viewings thanks to my babysitter, but Holly and the others were definitely compensation. (This is also why a 7 year-old boy knew the exact price of Hoover vacuum cleaner, a 12 oz. container of Pine Sol, and a dream vacation to Hawaii...!) We need an all Holly post!
DeleteI'd love to see an all Holly post too! She was by far my favorite growing up. :)
DeleteLet me add my voice to those crying for a Holly Hallstrom post!! I would still gladly be her love slave, if she would have me!
DeleteBorn in '76, lifelong member of the Holly fan club.
DeleteBTW that oven/microwave combo looks awesome, but it probably exposes you to lethal doses of radiation.
I would kill for that dune buggy tho.
Janice was also Playboy's Playmate of the Month for May 1971.
ReplyDeleteJanice's younger sister, Ann Pennington, was Playmate of the Month for March 1976
I bet that washer and dryer lasted longer than the the Vega.
ReplyDeleteTrue about the washer and dryer lasting longer but you can't fit a Chevy small block in a Maytag. And how times have changed, I caught TPIR last week and noticed that there was a guy model now.
ReplyDeleteI actually had that television in the last pic.
ReplyDeleteThe picture tube was fantastic and the set
survived three long distance moves.
I grew up with the avacado green side-by-side refrigerator above. My parents had it so long that when they finally replaced it they gave it to my wife and I and we continued to use it for several more years.
ReplyDeleteJanice, Holly and Dian babysat me through puberty for many a summer vacation!
ReplyDeleteMs. Ford is definitely one of the hottest women ever on a game show!
ReplyDeleteShe is the girl from Messiah of Evil that the zombies attack in a supermarket. She keeps stomping on that rubber mat but the door doesn't open. One of the great overlooked scenes in horror movie history.
ReplyDeleteI totally forgot they made a Vega notchback. I think I repressed it because it doesn't look right, especially compared to the perfect proportions and shape of a Vega hatchback.
ReplyDeleteDune buggy!
Jeez, what a tiny snowmobile.
The best thing about the Broyhill set is the ship flanked by paintings of ships.
Interesting how the women don't mind being regarded as "sex objects" as long as there's a buck in it or it can hopefully lead to "stardom."
ReplyDeleteI have that side-by-side refrigerator and use it in my kitchen. I bought it two years ago from an older lady who had bought it brand new. Her grandchildren convinced her to buy a new one because "avocado is too outdated". She bought a stainless steel one and was almost in tears when I picked up the avocado one. It works perfectly and I absolutely love avocado colored appliances. I know that I am in the minority but, I wish they still made appliances in that color. I like the harvest gold color and coppertone too. I am lucky to have all of my appliances in matching avocado, including my washer and dryer which were made in 1977. My oven is a Frigidaire Flair made in the 60's and my dishwasher is a KithenAid. It will be a very sad day when one of them finally gives up the ghost.
ReplyDeleteI think 70's decor is making a comeback. I watch way too much HGTV and have noticed darker flooring and cabinetry is being used more, along with funky lighting and green tile and accent colors. Wound not be surprised to see harvest gold and avacado green appliances rolling off an assembly line in the next few years. This web site has a picture of a kitchen that shows what I mean: http://www.hgtv.com/designers-portfolio/room/modern/kitchens/6021/index.html
Deletelove the Mary Jane shoes ( and legs ) thanks for going to the trouble to find and post
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, Bob, I didn't hear you over the sound of Anitra's incredible legs.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a set of pictures! Here's a little more on the lovely Anitra:
