Vintage Scares #35: Shock! A 1958 Universal Pressbook
So, I came across this 1958 pressbook put out by Universal Studios marketing their horror films to television stations. The book begins with some interesting promotional ideas. Then, it's on to each film in their catalog, with recommended 10 and 20 second on-air promotions, TV news releases, and much more.
Each page is pictured below. Or just download the whole shebang here. Enjoy!

Thank you for posting this, Gilligan! I've only seen excerpts from this booklet. One thing that made the host jobs either easy or worse depending on their creativity and comedic ability was the fact that Screen Gems put several boring non-horror films in this package. Zacherle once said when he had to show those bad mystery films, he would have the producer or director play a Sousa march or Big Band song during the detectives explanation at the end of the movie.
ReplyDeleteUniversal's movies, leased to Columbia Pictures' TV division Screen Gems for small screen sale.
