Once again, in the name of historical study we explore the undergarment sections of catalogs of yore. In the days before the internet, this was the go-to resource for finding ladies undressed. Well, old habits die hard - and we return to these pages, but this time it is in the noble pursuit of historical preservation.
Okay, okay. It's still to look at chicks in their underwear. Enjoy 1978-1983; Part 2 coming soon..

This nicely answers the question posed by the last post of How To Dress For Success.
ReplyDeleteWas I dreaming or was there actually a product - favored by my step-mother before the advent of pantyhose - called the panty girdle that was I believe a heavy duty panty with tabs for hose. I've searched but never found a photo of what I'm looking for. She would have bought it from Sears because my uncle was a buyer for Sears so that's where we shopped. It would have been from the late '50s to early '60s.
Panty girdle...1979 bottom right.
DeleteThanks I saw that. It's what made me think of the panty/girdle but 1979 bottom right is a plain girdle not a panty girdle. There must exist some kind of a nostalgia or good old days gene/hormone that makes a person long for the oddest things from their past. Some relicts just have the same affect on the mind as comfort food. That is probably one of the attractions of the vintage mini-skirt.
DeleteYou're thinking of a piece they used to call a "Cat's Cradle" and yes, it IS actually a rather robust panty with attached garter straps.
DeleteDon't think they've made them for quite a while... but gooogle images of "Garter Panties" and you'll see many examples of this fine fetish wear. Quite popular right up till the 80's IIRC.
It's disgusting you would present women's underwear ads as pornography to be leered at, and disgusting that these ads were not around when I was a Growing Boy, tearing through Mom's old "Good Housekeeping" magazines looking for something with a boob.
ReplyDeleteYou cut right to the chase about what was the "go to" section of these catalogs. Ahhh, those were much simpler times my friend!!

ReplyDeleteThat first 1983 chick in pink has one helluva bod.
