Vintage 1950 Comic Covers: Tales From The Crypt

It's not October yet but you can feel the spookiness approaching as the month creeps closer. Perhaps now is the perfect time to revisit one of the 50s most popular horror comics "Tales From The Crypt."

Bill Gaines is the mastermind behind Tales From The Crypt as he was the publisher and co-editor of EC comics. Gaines work revolved around the worlds of science fiction, satire, war and of course, horror.

Gaines was on KP patrol in World War II after being rejected by the U.S. Army, Coast Guard and Navy. He earned KP duty by requesting to be drafted during a tumultuous time in U.S. history.

After leaving the service he took over the show at EC following the death of his father Maxwell Gaines. So started Bill's incredible reign at EC producing some of the most memorable content, such as Tales From The Crypt.

What creeps us out the most about Tales From The Crypt wasn't always the stories. It was at many times the terrifying faces of The Crypt-Keeper, The Old Witch and The Vault-Keeper. But enough history, check out some of the classic covers from Tales From The Crypt below.

  1. Welcome back. We thought you were a gonner.

    1. It's not Gilligan. Not sure who is running the site now.

  2. Is Gilligan Okay ? I hope nothing is actually wrong with him. Sort of a member of the family.

  3. You can see Gilligan's new posts here:

  4. Yes, and I just published my comment on the previous article (the one with the cars and the 30 plus comments). What I said, aside from missing the REAL site, is that I was one of the people who happily donated to the site when Gilligan ran it. That will not happen now!

  5. I miss Mini Skirt Monday................
